"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"

"A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood"

Starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, Matthew Rhys as journalist Tom Junot.

I have some complaints about this movie.  First, I find it difficult to believe that any man would like this movie.  Come on, it's a story about a children's character and frankly the movie is kind of boring.

Seems that journalist Tom Junot got an assignment to meet with Fred Rogers.

Junot was going through some difficult times in his own life, involving a drinking father who was dying and marital issues involving work, babies and worried wives.

Junot got it in his head that Fred Rogers really can't be a real, such a nice person is obviously a fake.

Tom Hanks did a great job in the roll of Mr. Rogers.  I don't especially like Tom Hanks but there you go.

It would turn out that Fred Rogers is really one of the nicest  people on the planet but I note one very obvious defect in the story line.

WHERE WERE ROGERS'S TWO SONS?

We did meet Fred Rogers' wife, who played piano happily with her husband.  And Rogers' does mention his sons to Junot during an interview.  It was kind of standard schmaltz talk...."My older son didn't want anything to do with the show," Roger's character would say, then offer some fatherly comment that the son deserved to go his own way.

Junot's personal life went on, issues with his father and wife.  But the generally understood conclusion of the movie is that's it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, you'll love being my neighbor.

My granddaughter, age 16, went to the movie with me. She loved the movie.
