Most Confusing Mass ever on 2/1/20 It wasn't really that bad I must suppose.  But my church and its masses are a big part of my life and the mass celebrated on 2.1.20 at my church, which I will not name though one could figure it out I suppose.  And I must insert that mostly the masses at my church are done very well, timely, with a procedure that is done well.  And I add that my church has three masses on winter weekends and in the summer its often double that. But the mass on 2.1.20 made my head dizzy. The theme of this particular weekend's masses was the concept of a light coming upon the planet.  A notice had been inserted in the bulletin the prior week that we should being our candles from home that they may be blessed during the mass.  Also it was noted that the traditional blessing of the throat would be done before mass.  Diary 1/21/20 Been going to mass every week.  This past week, as of this writing, was the celebration of the Lord's baptism. Couple of things about this.  First, it was barely after New Year and I ponder celebrating the baptism of Jesus.  Jesus was not an infant when John the Baptist anointed him.  Seems incongruent in terms of time passage as I see it. Second, the Deacon and priest walked around the church and spattered holy water on all church parishioners.  The Deacon wetted my pew down something awful and we had to do the whole mass soaked.   My Niece's Bad Experience at Midnight Mass in Ocean City, Maryland this past Christmas   For years I've been encouraging my niece to go to church regularly, at least for Christmas midnight mass.  And from time to time she goes with me to a mass at my church.   Niece lives in Ocean City Maryland and this past Christmas she decided to attend the midnight mass by herself.   We stopped having midnight masses at my church because, as too often turned out, the local drinkers from the bars would show up.  And given that we have a somewhat older population, our "midnight mass" is at 8pm.   My niece described the mass to me at the local Catholic church on Coastal Highway in Ocean City.  "There was just a handful of people there," niece told me.  "They didn't sing much and it wasn't majestic or beautiful like I thought it would be."   No doubt niece was expecting a mighty organ ringing down from heaven.  She no do...

  Catholic Complaint  For several Sundays  during Advent my church had us singing "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" for the procession and exit.   Wow is that boring?  There are a million Christmas songs and we got to sing this song (not that this is a bad song as one of many) twice each mass, at least twice during Advent if I remember.   I so anxious to hear some Christmas songs but this song was constantly on the menu. -------------------------------------- See all my books on one page ------------------------------ "St. Joseph wanted to divorce Mary but an angel came to him"?
